According to reports in France, iconic creative directon Karl Lagerfeld has died at 85, after weeks of ill health.
Closer magazine reports he died on Tuesday, February 19th 2019. Chanel reported at the time of two of the brand’s haute couture shows that he was missing because he was “feeling tired”. Virginie Viard, director of the creative studio of the house, was then asked to represent him.
Nicknamed Kaiser Karl for his massive role in the fashion panorama, defined as a Renaissance man, was a genius, a man of multiple possibilities, who had guided Chanel house for more than three decades.
What I’ve done, Coco Chanel would never have done. She would have hated it.
Now the world has to figure out who is going to take his place: according to Chanel, current Celine creative director Hedi Slimane may be potentially kicking in, but no word from Fendi. Thing is, a world icon has gone.
